The U-arms cradles of spa cover lifter fold out of the way to reduce likelihood of damage and for a nicer appearance when the lift is not in use. U-arms are adjustable so that you can decide how high or low you want the folded cover to rest when opened. The Caddy even has U-arm extenders that you can pop in to accommodate covers that are thicker.
Once you have hot tub cover lift under the tub, all you need to do is align the 'bracket' height to match the top of your tub (or bottom of your spa cover), lock that height in, so that when spa cover pulled toward the cover holder, it easily slides into the bracket.
